National Action Plan for Great Snipe in Poland

On 2 March 2017, the General Director for Environmental Protection adopted the National Action Plan for Great Snipe. This is one of the first officially accepted documents of this kind in our country. According to its definition, it provides an in-depth analysis of the condition of the Polish population of the great snipe, identifies threats, and provides an assessment of existing protection methods. Its purpose is to develop a strategy for actions aimed at rebuilding the population of the great snipe including paths for their implementation, institutions responsible and the sources of financing.
The Action Plan was developed as part of the project coordinated by the Polish Society for the Protection of Birds titled “Active protection of the great snipe in the Upper Narew Valley Natura 2000 site”, co-financed by the European Union from the LIFE Programme, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management and Vogelschutz-Komitee. The document was created in accordance with art. 57 of the Nature Protection Act from 16 April 2004.
