We anticipate the following results of the Project:
- Halt the decline and stabilise the population of great snipe based on the average number of displaying males in 2015-17.
- Improved management on a total of 300 ha.
- Purchase of 60 ha of land in Lublin region and 30 ha in Podlasie region
- Improvement of hydrological conditions through the installation of 25 sluices in the Lublin region and preparation of the hydrological audit for Siemianówka reservoir in Podlasie.
- Restoration of 30 ha of abandoned meadows in Podlasie and 45 ha in the Lublin region.
- Introduction of 65 caws, 10 horses, 12 fords and 27326 m of fencing
- Reduction of 600 foxes / year around permanent lekking sites on the area of approx. 3000 ha
- Co-operation with farmers to adapt their management to the land management models developed as part of the National Action Plan. Contact with approx. 300 farmers on 16 Natura 2000 sites resulting with around 10% of farmers changing their management regime and 75% of farmers understand the habitat requirements for great snipe.
- Identification of habitat preferences and food resources, with emphasis on females, peat bogs in river valleys, peat bogs outside river valleys and in large river valleys.
- Assessment of threats at lekking sites in Belarus, which is important in view of the documented exchange of individuals and the probable immigration of birds from Belarus supporting Polish population.
- Proposals of legislative changes will be presented for improving habitats and productivity of great snipe in Poland.
- Monitoring of ornithological, botanical, socio-economic, ecosystem, hydrological, and predation impacts in the project sites is planned. The proposed project envisages improvement of habitat conditions for associated priority species, i.e. lapwing, black-tailed godwit, common snipe, redshank and others.
- It is planned to promote the project and exchange experiences in the form of online resources and promotional materials and meetings of the conservationists in Poland and abroad. Protection of great snipe will also be promoted in the media.
- The programme of work for the Working Group overseeing the implementation of the National Action Plan and the project will be organised. Under this action, the Action Plan will be updated, which will form the basis for the "After-LIFE" strategy.
